Announces their inaugural season with the production of

Splintered Crosses

At The Side Project Theatre beginning August 9th, 2007


Splintered Crosses consists of seven original, short plays, all dealing with religion. The first four examine faith in an absurdist, whimsical manner, placing familiar pop culture characters in strange situations that stem from their religious beliefs. God gets interrogated for child abuse. The Holy Grail transforms King Arthur into a sex-crazed wino. Pentecostal missionaries try and convert the Thundercats to Christianity. Halfway through the production, things take on a more serious note as we witness new characters being affected by Christianity in a much more tragic fashion. Grendel and his mother fall victim to a holy war led by Beowulf. A Christian couple tries to save their marriage. An abortion doctor questions her profession when she discovers one of her patients is carrying the messiah. This unique blend of genres and tones makes Splintered Crosses a night of theatre unlike any other; a play cycle that is as silly as it is grave, as political as it is ridiculous, a place where tragedy and toilet humor run amok in equal doses.


All of the plays were written by recent alumni of the nationally renowned Florida State University School of Theatre, and are being produced for the first time.


The Tympanic Theatre Company produces new, unsolicited work as well as reinvisioned classics in a provocative style that redefines how space is used in modern theatre. We aim to create theatrical experiences that are fresh, energetic, and visceral.
