Do Corporations have souls?
The problem of Corporations is obvious?civility. What if, as has been said , it is simply acting-out as playful teenager or at worst a trickster? What I am assuming is that the flows of information and systems within and around the corporation facilitate a life-like capacity, even a soul. The further question is does this quality of soul link to a purpose as a human's life does under many faith traditions, in one way or another. In these times of transformation and disruption every definition is up for grabs. What if like in I, Robot, random bits of ?code? have gathered together and now is consciousness or is becoming so or even could be incited to become a life force? Does the leader of such a life force have a responsibility to that purpose?taking the long run view? |

I just wanted to voice my opinion here: Yes, I think that corporations have consciousness. I also believe in a type of proto-panpsychism, where every object and combination of objects has a proto-consciousness built-in to it. Some people find this counter-intuitive, a thermostat having consciousness is outrageous for many people. But, by the same token, it is also very strange that consciousness would happen when you combine billions of neurons together (human brain).
In human language, we also think of corporations and countries as individuals, this is because, as you hinted above, they do behave like individuals in some ways. For instance, think of a sentence that starts with, "The U.S. threatened.....", "Microsoft agreed", "IBM paid...", etc. |
